Description

Saint Josephs Hospital Clonmel

This project consists of the refurbishment and extension of existing general hospital to provide new Radiology Department, Operating Department, CSSD, Medical and Surgical Day Unit, Wards, ICU, Physiotherapy, Education Centre, Consultants Clinic, Medical Records, On Call and Accident and Emergency Unit as part of a comprehensive Development Control Plan. Future phases will include Paediatrics, Pathology, Psychiatric, Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Entrance Concourse, Dining and more ward space.

One of the most difficult aspects of the job was keeping the hospital fully operational during the construction period. This has necessitated the detailed integration of the building structure, not only to facilitate the ongoing functions but also to allow future expansion and development.
Upon the completion of all phases the existing historic workhouse building will have been re-established and the adhoc extensions made over the years will have been replaced by a coherent modern hospital complex. This will be fronted by the existing building which will continue to act as a landmark for the town.
